Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
ERMU Commission Mike Tietz—Technical Services Superintendent
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
June 13, 2017 6.1d
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
ACTION REQUESTED:
None
DISCUSSION:
• In May, The Locating department had a total of 656 locate tickets consisting of ten
emergency tickets, 22 cancellations, 19 meetings, 542 normal tickets and 56 updated
tickets. This is a 27% increase in volume of tickets from the previous month. Devin
Ruprecht started on May 22 and has quickly gotten up to speed. Staff is rapidly learning
to use the new version of KORWeb locating software. We are exploring new options
available with this software to overlay ERMU facilities onto KORWeb's map eliminating
flipping between programs in the field.
• Electric Technicians continue with the meter reading, power bill, substation checks,
hanging red-tags, meter read-outs, dealing with meter and off-peak issues, as well as
delivering and installing new meters to commercial customers. They continue to change
out the three phase meters with meters that will be read by radio ERT.
Congratulations to Tony Hubbard and Jeff Murray on their completion of their Substation
Technician Certification and Meter Technician Certification programs!
• The power plant staff did the monthly engine run in May. Engines 2 & 3 ran well. Engine
1 could not be run due to a faulty synchronizer motor. We are waiting on a replacement
part to be manufactured locally. Engine 4 had its replacement controller installed by
Utilities Plus Energy Services during the second week of June and is back up and
running.
• Mapping department continues to enter GPS points and attribute points for all of our
systems assets within the ESRI ArcView GIS system. Staff has been gathering
information about options available for additional users as well as platforms.
92
