Item WICity of q c - ElkMemorandum River To: Parks and Recreation Commission From: Tim Sevcik,Park Superintendent Date: June 9,2017 Subject: Staff Report Athletic Complexes The parks maintenance staff has continued to work through upgrades to the athletic complexes conducting necessary irrigation maintenance. With the 90 degree weather, several areas began looking drought stressed which allowed staff to identify areas of poor coverage within the complexes and make the necessary adjustments. Additionally, all irrigation systems are now scheduled to run twice per day to keep up with the turf needs until we receive more favorable weather. Volunteer Projects Volunteers from the Twin Cities Biathlon Club came out in May and stained the outside of the biathlon building which was in much need of a make-over. They were able to get all of the siding completed, though there is still more work to be done. The work they did however looks great and will help to preserve the building for years to come. Trott Brook Farms Park Staff received a complaint from a resident at Trott Brook Farms Park who's property adjoins the trail extension north of the park regarding the weedy conditions of the mulch beds along the trail edge. The trees at the sight had not been trimmed since they were planted and had branches reaching the ground making maintenance nearly impossible. Staff limbed the trees, removed the mulch beds and installed sod to this area which will result in a better appearance in the neighborhood and allow for easier maintenance of the park. Hillside City Park The contractor was on site at Hillside City Park this week and chipped up all of the logs and brush from the tree work that was done in the park this past winter.
