MEMORANDUM River TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Sandra Peine, City Clerk DATE: June 14, 1999 SUBJECT: Renewal of Liquor Licenses Liquor licenses run from July 1st through June 30th. Attached is a list of liquor establishments that have requested liquor license renewals. All of the establishments have submitted the appropriate documentation and license fees. Background checks are necessary for the renewals of on-sale, wine, and club licenses, and have been completed for all establishments applying for these types of licenses. There are two changes from last year's liquor license renewals. They are as follows: . . Holiday Station Store #313 - will not be renewing its license to sell 3.2 percent beer off-sale . Olde Main Eatery and Sweet Shoppe - will not be renewing its license to sell wine and beer on-sale Status on Number of Liauor Licenses for the Citv of Elk River Minnesota statute 340A.413 limits the number of on-sale liquor licenses in cities. The city of Elk River is a 3rd class city, which is allowed 12 on-sale liquor licenses. (3rd class cities are cities with a population of 10-20,000). Elk River currently has 8 on-sale licenses, which leaves 4 licenses available at this time. The number of on-sale licenses allowed for the city of Elk River will increase to 18 when the city reaches the status of 2nd class with a population of over 20,000. The City Council may issue on-sale licenses in excess of the authorized number by a majority vote directing a question to go on a ballot at either a special election or general election. This data is presented as information so that members of the council know how many liquor licenses are available in the city of Elk River at this time.
