Library Services Coordinator Report

April was a good month at GRRL Elk River. Our Friends of the Library Book sale was a great
success. They had the highest amount of sales they have had in over 3 years. We are so thankful
for our Friends group and all their support.

Our Acoustic Music Night attendance continues to increase each month. We had a staff member
who attended as a patron last month who told me “it was a really cool vibe-great jam session”!
Our “Reading is Fun-damental” program with Don. B, unicyclist extraordinaire on April 4 was
well attended and well liked based on patron feedback. We hope to have him back.
Nathan Stockwell, a local magician performed on May 11, and we had 45 patrons who attended
the event-so nice to see a full house!

Our digital library/e-reader help sessions, as well as our basic computer/internet help sessions
have been in high-demand, with our time slots being filled on several of the dates that were
offered. We will be continuing to offer those events over the summer, and are asking for
advanced registrations to better determine our staffing needs. These events are currently being
staffed by our own Elk River staff, as well as staff from Headquarters in St. Cloud, and a
volunteer.

Summer will be busy as well, as we gear up for our summer reading program. We will be doing
some outreach visits to local elementary schools to market this program. We will also be having
the Junior Master Gardener program back this summer, since it was very successful last year.
Thanks to Tim from Parks and Rec in working with Liz Lewis from Sherburne Master Gardeners
Program.

In outreach news, we will be having a Library Day at the Elk River Farmer’s Market, once per
month, starting in June, and going through October. We will be sharing a booth with the City of
Elk River and hope to have a fun game for children to win books, as well as other prizes. Each
month, we will be emphasizing a different program or event that is occurring at the Library in
that month. So, for our June visit to the Farmer’s Market, we will be promoting Summer
Reading Program. In July, we will be promoting the Junior Master Gardener program, as well as
a couple of special events such as our Classical Guitarist show, and our Creature Encounters
event.

I am starting to work on fall/winter programming as well. We have two Legacy Events in the
works. The first is a Military History Mysteries event, hopefully in October, and a Holiday
Concert event with a Harpist in late November/early December.
5.7
