<br />VILLAGE OF ELK RIVER COUNCIL MEETING <br />April 11, 1898 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Village Council met at courthouse at 8:30 P.M. o’clock. <br /> <br />Present: H.C. Hastings, Pres.; F.P. Brown, C.T. Nickerson, Trustees; Chas. M. Babcock, <br />Recorder. <br /> <br />Village Council met with, L.O. Hare present, for the purpose of buying and maintaining a free ferry <br />at the place known as the Hare Ferry. <br /> <br />A motion was made that a warrant be drawn on the Treasurer of the Village of Elk River in favor of <br />L.O. Hare for $125.00 in part consideration of his bill of sale on consignment of the Hare Ferry, so <br />called, to the Village of Elk River; and a warrant in favor of James Hare for $100.00 in addition <br />(being balance due on bill of sale of said property) to be paid at satisfaction of mortgage of said <br />property. <br /> <br />Yeas: H.C. Hastings, F.P. Brown, C.T. Nickerson, C.M. Babcock. <br />Nays: None. <br /> <br />On motion the following hours were adopted for running free ferry: 5 A.M. to 9 P.M. weekdays and <br />on Sunday from 6 A.M. to 10 P.M. The fees for after hours (which are to go to the ferry man) are <br />$.15 for foot passengers one way or round trip for $.25 and $.25 for team one way. Any complaints <br />on ferry man shall be brought before the Council with the ferry man. <br /> <br />On motion J.W. Haywood was appointed pound master from the Village of Elk River. <br /> <br />The following bills were presented and on motion allowed: <br /> <br />H.J. Hebner, repairing lamp, $.25 <br />W.L.
