Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br />Mayor and City Council 4.8 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br />Consent May 1, 2017 Lauren Wipper, Human Resource Representative <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Human Resources Technician Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Reviewed by <br /> <br /> <br />Action Requested <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of Karen Keast for the position of Human Resources Technician <br />effective May 17, 2017. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br />Following the resignation of Katie Haase, we went to market to fill our Human Resources Technician <br />position. We received 72 applications and offered interviews to the top six candidates. Following second <br />interviews with two candidates, background and reference checks, Karen Keast is recommended for the <br />position of Human Resources Technician. <br /> <br />Ms. Keast has been working as a Program Assistant III in the Human Resources Department at the City <br />of Brooklyn Park for the past five years. Prior to that, she was the Human Resources Assistant at Zero <br />Zone Refrigeration for nine years. Ms. Keast comes highly recommended by Mr. Portner’s former co- <br />workers and we are very excited to have her join our department. <br /> <br />Ms. Keast will start at step A of pay grade 5 and will be eligible for a step increase after a successful <br />orientation period. All pay and benefits will be consistent with city policy. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br />This is a budgeted position. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> None <br /> <br /> <br />
