Work began in
late March with edging all turf/aglime surfaces and reconstructing the warning tracks at Oak
Knoll and YAC. Many of these areas had developed lips along the transitions which were
removed and regraded to make for a safer and more aesthetically pleasing playing surface.
Additionally, foul lines and base paths are being realigned and the pitching mound at Oak
Knoll Field 1 will be reconstructed in early May. Lacrosse and soccer field striping is also
ongoing and turf treatments will take place in the next two weeks.
Volunteer Projects
Several volunteer and Adopt a Park groups will be out in the next couple of weeks cleaning
up trash and debris from the parks. In addition, a Boy Scout troop will be conducting
planting of 300 seedling trees at Hillside City Park in coordination with the Sherburne Soil
and Water Conservation District. At YAC, staff from Cargill will again be out this year to
continue with tree planting efforts around the ballfields to diversify plantings and provide
future shade and screening from the wind.
Park Improvement Fund Projects
Projects from the 2017 Park Improvement Fund list are continuing to progress. Installation
of scoreboards at YAC (six scoreboards) and Oak Knoll (one scoreboard) is anticipated to
begin in early June. Repairs to the pavers and fountain area of Rivers Edge Commons are
complete. Trail repairs and connections are currently out to bid with bid results expected in
the next couple of weeks. Staff is working with Flagship Recreation on the final design and
budget for replacement of the Barrington Playground with construction anticipated to be
conducted in July and complete in early August.
