Elk River ---
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Theresa Slominski—Finance and Office Manager
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
March 13, 2017 6.1b
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
Our auditors, Abdo, Eick, &Meyers, were onsite for fieldwork Thursday and Friday,March 2nd
and 3rd. Everything went well and staff was able to answer questions and provide documentation
requested. They still have to complete the proposed entry for the GASB 68 accrual related to the
pension at PERA. The City's onsite fieldwork with their auditors will be the week of March
13th. We are anticipating presentation of the audit at the April commission meeting.
April 15th will be the end of the cold weather rule and we anticipate high numbers for shutoffs
once this ends. We have been hanging a lot of red tags (the notification during the cold weather
rule period of October 15th to April 15th in lieu of shutting power off) and they have not
generated a lot of payment activity or even communication. Sometimes, after being shut off
disgruntled customers reach out to the commissioners and so this is just a heads up. We will have
another commission meeting before that date and should be able to provide more information at
that meeting.
There are several reports due this time of year for the Energy Information Association (EIA) and
MISO (Midwest Independent System Operator). The EIA reports are informational and relate to
our engines at the plant and the landfill, our system infrastructure and performance, sales results,
and some energy conservation information for the prior 2016 year. The MISO reports are based
on 2015 information for determining our transmission rebates we will receive as being a part
owner of the transmission systems with MMTG.
PINEIEI BY
® Page 1 of 1 NATURE
Reliable Pttilic
Power Provider POWERED T O S ERV E
263
