<br /> <br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council 4.4 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> <br />ConsentMarch 6, 2017Cal Portner, City Administrator <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Hire Environmental Coordinator Suzanne Fischer, COD Director <br />Reviewed by <br />Lauren Wipper, HR Representative <br /> <br />Action Requested <br /> <br />Approve, by motion, the hiring of Amanda Bednar to fill the vacant Environmental Coordinator position <br />effective March 13, 2017. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br /> <br />Environmental Technician Kristin Mroz-Risse resigned to take a position with the State of Minnesota <br />Environmental Quality Board. <br /> <br />Eighteen applicants applied for the vacant position, which had a title change to be consistent with similar <br />positions within the organization. Seven candidates were interviewed and four returned for a second <br />interview. <br /> <br />Ms. Amanda Bednar is currently employed as the City of Coon Rapids Recycling Assistant. Prior to her <br />work in Coon Rapids, Ms. Bednar worked as a District Representative at the Minnehaha Creek <br />Watershed District in Minnetonka. She also has experience as a temporary Program Assistant at <br />Recycling Association of Minnesota and as an Environmental Services Intern at Carver County in <br />Chaska. She holds a BA from the College of Saint Benedict with a double major in Environmental and <br />Earth Science and Environmental Studies and Communication. <br /> <br />She will begin at Step A of Grade 7 of our current compensation plan and is eligible for Step B after a <br />successful orientation period.
