EOty1 ,., Request for Action
River
To Item Number
Mayor and City Council 4.7
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by
Consent February 21, 2017 Justin Femrite, P.E., City Engineer
Item Description Reviewed by
Traffic Control Change at Waco Street and Mark Thompson, Street Superintendent
Business Center Drive Reviewed by
Cal Portner, City Administrator
Action Requested
Approve,by motion, a change to the traffic control at the intersection of Waco Street and Business
Center Drive from an All-Way Stop controlled intersection to a Stop controlled only intersection on
Business Center Drive.
Background/Discussion
With requests from the public, staff has reviewed the traffic control at the intersection of Waco Street
and Business Center Drive. The intersection is currently controlled with an All-Way stop condition.
Based on an engineering review of the traffic counts and layout of the intersection,it is appropriate to
consider a change to a permissive through movement (no Stop sign) on Waco Street with a Stop
condition remaining on Business Center Drive. This potential change has been reviewed by the police
department and street division. Both support the change.
There is a potential that the All-Way Stop will need to be reinstalled in the future if traffic volumes
increase, but at this time it is appropriate to allow Waco Street traffic to travel through the intersection
without stopping.
Upon approval, additional notification including `Traffic Control Change Ahead' signs and flags will be
used to bring awareness to the change in control.
Financial Impact
Costs for sign modifications will come from the approved line item for street signs in the 2017 street
division budget.
Attachments
■ None
POWERED 6T
Template Updoted 4/14 INAMIRE1
