K1aers, City AWistrator <br />February 16, 1999 <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Boys and Girls Club Update <br /> <br />Councilmember Thompson is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Elk <br />River Boys and Girls Club. Councilmember Motin is also on the Board of <br />Directors. The Lions Club is working with this organization for the <br />construction of a facility in Lions Park. The Boys and Girls Club is moving <br />forward with its fund raising efforts in order to provide money for the <br />construction of the facility and the operation of the club. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The executive director of the Elk River Boys and Girls Club, Mr. John <br />Fitzgerald, was at the last City Council meeting when council approval was <br />given for using landfill waste abatement funds in the amount of $65,000 to <br />assist in the funding of the recycled flooring and windows. In exchange for <br />this contribution from the city, the club will become a public demonstration <br />site for appropriate uses of recycled materials. At the February 8 meeting, <br />Mr. Fitzgerald indicated the goal of the club was to break ground on the <br />project within 30 to 60 days. The draft ground lease between the city and the <br />club is in near final form, but has yet to be signed. The conditional use <br />permit for the project was approved on May 18, 1998. <br /> <br />Councilmember Thompson and/or Motin should be able to provide everyone <br />with an update on the status of this project at this February 16, 1999, <br />meeting. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
