Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk—Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
January 10, 2017 5.2
SUBJECT:
2017 Vehicle Purchases and Retirements
BACKGROUND:
Approved in the 2017 budget are three F250 pickup trucks. We are replacing two trucks in the
Water Department, and one truck in the Electric Department.
DISCUSSION:
In May of 2016, Midway Ford was the vendor awarded the contract for State Contract pricing of
vehicles. Attached are the quotes from Midway Ford and our local Ford Dealer, Cornerstone
Automotive.
Vehicle Type Cornerstone Midway Difference
F250 with Backup Camera ; $32,298.37 $31,926.07„ $ 372.30.'
F250 without Backup Camera $ 31,983.13 $31,562.90 $ 420.23
The evaluation forms for Units 25, 26, and 31 are attached. Units 25 and 26 have accumulated
enough points for replacement. At 23 points, Unit 31 has not yet accumulated enough points for
replacement;the replacement level is 25 points. In the past year$3,433.21 has been spent on
repairs for various issues; receipts are available upon request. The vehicle has also developed
additional mechanical issues which cause the pickup to stall. The cost to repair the issue has not
yet been investigated. If we were to keep the truck it would also need between$2,500 and$3,500
to repair the rust on the body and the worn out seat. With all of the repairs required, staff is
recommending that Unit 31 be replaced as well.
On a different note concerning vehicles,we made $29,450 on five vehicles we sent to the auction
in December. These vehicles were ones that were replaced in 2016; one dump truck, two F250
pickups, one van, and one Spin Doctor.
E I
PI ■ ERE ® 11
Page 1 of 2 NATURE
Reliable Public
Power Provider POWERED T O SERVE
118
