Item 8.2
City of
Elk
Memorandum
.y,
River
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Tim Sevcik
Date: January 6,2017
Subject: Staff Report
Ice Skating Rinks
The Parks Maintenance Division has been working hard to get the outdoor skating rinks up
and running this year. All skating rinks were open to the public before Christmas;however
the Christmas Day rain storm melted away much of the skating surfaces resulting in the need
to begin again from scratch. All skating rinks were re-opened on January 5th.
Tree Removal
Hillside City Park hazard tree removal is continuing to progress. The crew has removed
over 30 hazard trees this winter while continuing to clean up down trees, logs and brush.
Over 800 standing dead trees were identified throughout the southern 40 acres of Hillside
City Park this summer and marked for removal.
Snow Removal
The Parks Maintenance Division has continued to support City snow removal efforts.
Currently three staff conduct snow plowing of city streets in support of the Streets
Department, while the remaining three staff clear snow and ice from city sidewalks and trails.
So far this winter has already brought more staff hours for snow plowing than all of the
2015-16 winter season.
P 1 W E w E l 1 1
C:\Users\lwetch\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files\Content.Outlook\RT5ZFL5X\Item 8 NATURE
Park Superintendents Report.docx
