Memorandum <br /> •• .River <br /> To: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> From: Tim Sevcik <br /> Date: December 8,2016 <br /> Subject: Staff Report <br /> Forestry Mobile App <br /> • The Parks Maintenance Division teamed up with the Sherburne Soil and Water <br /> Conservation District to develop a mobile app for surveying trees within the active <br /> use areas throughout the park system. The app was developed to collect data based <br /> on the hazard tree program used by the parks. Working with Sherburne SWCD, <br /> Sherburne County,Parks Department Staff and volunteers the app has been <br /> completed and nearly 2,000 trees surveyed. As a result,Park's crews have begun <br /> using the data to correct or remove hazardous trees from the parks. <br /> Maintenance Efforts <br /> • Skating Rinks—Flooding began on 07DEC2016 with the goal to have Handke Pit <br /> and Lions John Weicht Park rinks open by December 16 and the neighborhood <br /> rinks by December 22. <br /> • Tree Pruning—Parks Maintenance has completed tree pruning off all trees within <br /> mowed turf areas throughout the park system. <br /> • Hillside City Park—New sign with map and rules was installed; tree removal will <br /> begin December 12. <br /> • Woodland Trails Regional Park—New fuel tank was purchased and installed for <br /> fueling grooming equipment. <br /> • Hired new staff member,Tanner Anderson,who previously served with Elk River <br /> Streets Department. <br /> POWERED BY <br /> N:\Departments\Parks and Recreation\Commission\Packets\2016\12-14-16 PRC Packet\Managers Report_Park NATURE <br /> Maintenance.docx <br />
