414 o f .�., Request for Action <br /> River <br /> To Item Number <br /> Economic Development Authority 6.2 <br /> Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> General Business December 19,2016 Amanda Othoudt,EDD <br /> Item Description Reviewed by <br /> City Beautification Subcommittee Cal Portner,City Administrator <br /> Reviewed by <br /> Action Requested <br /> Approve,by motion,the creation of the EDA City Beautification subcommittee and an amendment to <br /> the EDA Bylaws. <br /> Background/Discussion <br /> Staff is developing the EDA City Beautification Sub-committee to review nominations and select local <br /> businesses that pride themselves in beautifying their neighborhood and the community. <br /> The sub-committee will be made up of five community members who will be Elk River residents,one of <br /> whom will be an Elk River Chamber member. Members will be appointed by the EDA and will have no <br /> term limit.The committee will meet once a month at a time and date established by the membership. <br /> From May through October,one winner will be chosen each month with a grand prize winner chosen in <br /> October. Business owners would receive public recognition and an award for making the City of Elk <br /> River beautiful! <br /> Businesses may self-nominate or be nominated by others. Winning properties may be shown in <br /> promotional materials with owner's consent. <br /> Awards are given in two categories. 1) Businesses that have made substantial improvements to the <br /> exterior of their buildings and/or landscape. 2) Businesses that consistently maintain their properties in <br /> an attractive and well-kept manner. <br /> Nominations must be submitted before the first Monday of each month. The committee will select a <br /> winner who will receive an engraved plaque to display.
