Ji
Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk- Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 11,2016 6.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered one new water meter.
• Sealed the water meter, and took curb stop ties from two water services.
• Went on seven service calls.
• Completed 25 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples
o All confirmed negative for Coliform Bacteria.
• Completed 20 routine fluoride samples
o All samples met MDH standards.
• The WTP#7 Expansion is going well as planned. The roof was installed, the new
windows were installed, and the new walls were put up in the chemical room. The
contractor will be moving forward with sealing up the addition in preparation for the
interior work. Attached are pictures of the new chemical rooms and windows.
• The well motor at Well#4 shorted out, which has prompted us to make some adjustments
to our 2017 capital budget to account for the replacement of the motor. We will be
leaving the well down for the winter for reconditioning of the filter and are planning to
bring the well back online in April of 2017.
• We have repaired all of the leaking hydrants and one of the leaking water mains that were
identified during the leak detection survey. While repairing the water main, it was
determined that the leak was due to a rolled gasket between two pipes, which ultimately
caused it to leak since the day it was installed. Attached is a picture of the repair. At a
very conservative estimate of one gallon per minute for each leak, we will reduce our loss
by 500,000 gallons per month. We will continue to have a leak detection survey
performed every year.
ATTACHMENTS:
• September Pumping by Well
• September 2016 Accumulated Precipitation Graph
• September 2016 Daily Temperature Graph
POWERED BY
NATURE
Reliable Public

Power Provider PaNERED T o S ,av[.
157
