Item: 9
of
Elk
Memorandum
River
To: Parks and Recreation Commission
From: Michael Hecker,Parks and Recreation Director
Date: October 13, 2016
Subject: Director's Report
This report is a monthly highlight of department activities related to collaboration, strategic
planning, staff changes/developments, and park operations.
River Edge Commons Park Expansion
The expansion of the Rivers Edge Commons Park is continuing to proceed. Work began on this
project in early August with Sunram Construction conducting demolition of the alleyway and lower
parking lot to allow for utilitity work to be conducted. After exposing the existing utilities it was
determined that the stormwater plan was not feasible due to the large number of existing utilities in
the alleyway resulting in a redesign of the stormwater plan. Sunram's sub-contractor for stormwater
completed the stormwater improvements in mid-September allowing for Sunram to begin shaping
the ground for final grades.
Major tasks completed thus far include stormwater improvements, relocation of the downtown
street lights cabinent, relocation of several small utilities, rough grading of upper parking lot and
plaza area, and installation of concrete curbs. Concrete stairs will be constructed the week of
October 10th followed by grading of the lower terraces and installation of the seat walls. Substaincial
completion is expected in early November with project completion in the spring of 2017.
Pinewood Golf Course
The City is currently taking a request for proposals (RFP) on the Pinewood Golf Course. Purchases proposals will only be entertained for the
entire golf course and that it continues to be operated as a golf course for a minimum of five
seasons from 2017 to 2021.
