.i
L1`bry Services Cooter Report
To: Elk River Library Board
From: Will Hollerich, LSC
Date: July, 2016
New Catalog and New Website
In the past few months, Great River Regional Library has introduced a new catalog and a new
website. If you haven't had a chance to check them out yet, see https://find.griver.org/ and
https://www.griver.org/ for a look at both. The new faceted searching on our VuFind catalog,
which debuted to the public in April, gives it a more modern look than the classic HIP (Horizon
Information Portal) catalog, in use since 2004, and which you can still access at
https://pac.griver.org/. Our new website received a soft launch in June and features a more
mobile-friendly interface.
Updates: 2016 Summer Reading Program, "Junior Master Gardeners" Series
We've had a number of children, babies and teens register for the "Read for the Win!" 2016
SRP, and the new Junior Master Gardeners program, co-sponsored by the Sherburne County
Master Gardeners, has been a big success, so far reaching full or over full attendance most
weeks.
ISD 728/Zimmerman Schools Bring EdVentures to Elk River Library
This summer, Zimmerman schools and Independent School District # 728 have offered to bus
elementary, middle and high schoolers to the Elk River Public Library twice a week. Mondays
and Wednesdays from about 10:00 am to 11:00 am, students and their parents are eligible to get
bus rides from schools in Zimmerman to our GRRL branch to get library cards, check out books
and other materials, participate in the Summer Reading Program, and more. We think it is a great
opportunity for a large community without a library to take advantage of library services
available in their area when their schools are closed for the summer, and so far have seen
busloads of as many as 21 children (mostly in the middle- and grade-school range) make use of
this great new program that we hope will continue into future summers.
1
