b.
Patron Services Supervisor Report
To: Elk River Library Board
CC: William Hollerich, LSC
From: Brandi Canter, Lead PSS
Date: July 18, 2016
GRRL 2017 Budget presented to Finance Committee
At the May 2016 GRRL Board meeting, the administration presented its 2017 budget for review
by the Finance Committee. For the 2017 budget GRRL is trying a new process, borrowed from
Benton County. We used a 'base budget' to factor in unavoidable increases into the starting
budget. For example, we know that the minimum wage will increase again in 2017, and we know
how many positions will be impacted. So the cost to GRRL to continue doing business at the
current level will increase by a fixed amount which is built into the base. In March, GRRL
Departments were able to make requests for additional operations funding, and these went into
the overall budget.
The Finance Committee did not have any concerns with the 2017 budget as presented, and they
did not request any changes from administration. The budget will be voted on by the full board
on July 19.
Magazines: OverDrive periodicals and renewal notices
One year ago we started offering digital magazines though OverDrive. The response has been
great: the collection has had over 7,500 checkouts! Because the collection was well received, we
will continue to offer the digital magazines though June 2017 thanks in part to a generous
donation from the St. Cloud Friends of the Library.
Friends Meet Friends (FMF)
GRRL's Fund Development Team will be hosting a FMF event on Thursday, September 22,
2016. Sue Hall, Director of Library Strategies, will speak strategic and development planning in
support of local and regional libraries.
1
