Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Tom Sagstetter- Conservation and Key Accounts
John Dietz—Chair Manager
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
June 14th, 2016 6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Provided the cost of service study consultant with almost all the information required to
complete the study. Provided the consultant with direction as to types of rates ERMU is
looking to offer in the future as energy markets and customer demands for information
rate options change.
• Working with local commercial customers on an increasing number of rebates and
expansion projects. New construction and significant remodeling/expanding of buildings
is what is currently taking place.
• Working with city departments on budgets. At this point the best estimate is a 3%rate
increase for electric. An interesting trend is that budgets for utilities on the City side
have increased as a result of the increase in pilot from 3%to 4% in 2016. City
departments will no longer have free energy, but rather will pay for all energy but will be
compensated for by the 1% increase in PILOT. Energy City hosted tours for
approximately 293 visitors from Princeton and Otsego.
• Energy City Commission is participating where needed as part of the City of Elk River
budgeting process to recommend initiatives that make environmental and financial sense.
Items that are being evaluated are: lighting upgrades, electric vehicle options, and an
interactive solar display. There has also been some discussion what recommendations
the Energy City Commission can make that pertain to the remodel/new construction of
the ice arena, senior activity center, and Lions Park. The newly established Sustainability
Youth Committee already has one applicant and will continue to recruit local students
through mid-September.
• Working with the City to include electric vehicle use and charging in the green
transportation initiatives that will be worked on with the MN Green Corps member.
Items under review currently are the types of charging units, location of units, in home
programs, rates and billing mechanisms, and marketing to the public.
® POWERED RE
Page 1 of 2 NATURE
Reliable Public
Power Provider P OWERED T O S ERV E
346
