,tcli01,c16' 2-.q l(P.
nti I 7
i
Patron Services S upervisor Repoit
To: Elk River Library Board I
CC: Will Hollerich, LSC; Laura Wetch,City of Elk River
From: Brandi Canter, PSS
Date: February 9, 2016 I
t
GRRL is moving forward with its new Strategic Plan for 2016-2020. The new strategic plan
answers the request from local community leaders and our users by adding greater focus on 1'
community outreach and collaboration as well as additional technology services. Every Library
t
Services Coordinator will develop a local action plan for his or her branches, identifying a t
specific group of users and/or non-users where we can focus outreach, programming or other i
1
efforts. t
t
In addition, a proposal went before the board in January, and is expected to be voted on in
March, to restructure the Patron Services department by eliminating the Associate Director of
Patron Services position. This change would make the Executive Director more involved with 1
decisions impacting the local level, and it would free up funds for a third regional Patron
Services Librarian position with an emphasis on outreach services.
Last fall GRRL completed a survey of users and non-users. Nearly 1,300 people responded, and I
of that, just under 9% listed an Elk River zip code. The vast majority of library users (+70%)
continue to use the library to check out physical materials like books, music and videos. Other
high uses included using library computers and/or WiFi (24%) and attending programs (13%).
The biggest request from respondents was for more and/or more regular open hours.
i
Lastly, on March 1 our Executive Director, Karen Pundsack, and Will are going to be speaking ,
to the Sherburne County Commissioners with an update about the strategic plan and library
services in Sherburne County.
P
3
1
.1.
I
i
I
i
i
I
1
t
'
