• Item # 5
City of
Elk
River
MEMORANDUM
TO: Economic Development Authority
FROM: Catherine Mehelich, Director of Economic Development
DATE: October 8, 2001
SUBJECT: Marketing Plan Activities
MN Manufacturing &Technology Recognition Event
In partnership with the Chamber, the City EDA will be cosponsoring a recognition event as
part of the MN Dept of Trade &Economic Development Manufacturing&Technology
Month (Oct. 22—Nov.23). The event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 23 and will
include a plant tour of Tescom, E& 0 Tool, and Sportech. A luncheon will be provided at
• the Elk River Country Club with presentation by keynote speaker,Rick Speckmann. In
addition to the Chamber membership, the City Council, EDA, HRA, County
Commissioners, and various economic development entities will be invited to attend.
MN Real Estate Journal Economic Development& Site Selection Conference
Staff will be participating in the October 16 conference. Attached is the conference agenda.
As a cosponsor the City of Elk River will be part of a panel discussion about municipal and
business park marketing plans and incentives. The event provides the City an opportunity to
highlight its new business park areas and development goals among a group of real estate
brokers,property managers and developers.
Prospect Update
Staff is currently working with a light manufacturer to relocate its expanding company to Elk
River. The prospect requires a minimum 1.5-acre lot for construction of up to 20,000-
square feet in spring 2002. With the exception of the Brookstone East Business Park, the
City is at a shortage of 1.5+ acre lots for smaller, growing companies that wish to be in the
business park areas. This issue may be subject of further discussion within the worksession
on Business Park development options.
Industrial Park Property
Attached is a copy of the preliminary plat for Cascade Industrial Park located in the
southeast corner of Elk River along Jarvis Street. The property is zoned for medium
industrial and provides approximately 38-acres of much needed land for businesses that may
• not qualify for business park property. It is anticipated that this property will be available by
year-end.
S:\EDA\MARKETNG\UPDATES\10-8-01.DOC
