• ift,:"/>16% Item # 9
City
Elk --1
River
MEMORANDUM
TO: Elk River Economic evelopment Authority
FROM: Michele McPherso , Director of Planning
DATE: July 9, 2001
SUBJECT: Business Park Design Standards
Attachments
• Staff Ordinance
• Brookstone Amended Ordinance
•
In recent months, the Planning Commission and staff have been working with developers on
revising the business park design standards. Specifically, building materials have been the area of
focus, as in 2000, the Commission removed concrete tip up panels as a primary building
material.
Enclosed please find two versions of the revised ordinance language that the Commission will
be reviewing at their July 24,2001 meeting. The first is the language drafted by staff, with input
from the Planning Commission. The second was submitted by Brookstone,Inc. Their version
limits the mix of materials and architectural treatments to only those side that directly face a
public street, residential district, or public trail/path.
It is staff's opinion that the sides that are visible from an adjacent street should receive similar
treatment as those facing the street. It is understandable that the side that is filled with loading
docks would have less variety of materials and architectural detailing.
Recommendation
The EDA is asked to comment on the attached ordinance language.
S:\PLANNING\Business Park\7 05 01 EDA.doc
