<br />Request for Action <br /> <br /> <br />To Item Number <br /> <br />Mayor and City Council 4.5 <br />Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by <br /> <br />ConsentFebruary 16, 2016Ron Nierenhausen, Chief of Police <br />Item Description Reviewed by <br />Promotion of Detective Sergeant Lauren Wipper, HR Representative <br />Reviewed by <br />Cal Portner, City Administrator <br /> <br />Action Requested <br /> <br />Approve, by motion, the promotion of Detective Joseph Gacke to the position of Detective Sergeant <br />effective 4:31 p.m., February 26, 2016. <br /> <br />Background/Discussion <br /> <br />The Detective Sergeant position will be vacant as Sergeant Bryan Vita is scheduled to retire effective 4:30 <br />p.m. February 26, 2016. <br /> <br />The Detective Sergeant is responsible for supervision of the Police Department Detective Division <br />consisting of six detectives. Per the Police Department job description, interview process, and <br />qualifications for the position, Joseph Gacke is exceptionally qualified for the position. <br /> <br />Joseph Gacke is a 14-year veteran of the Elk River Police Department. He was hired as a police officer <br />on July 9, 2001, and was promoted to detective on June 1, 2006. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br /> <br />The position is currently budgeted and due to the retirement of Sergeant Vita there will be no financial <br />impact to the city.
