ITEM # 6. <br /> City of <br /> Elk <br /> River <br /> MEMORANDUM <br /> TO: Economic Development Authority L, <br /> FROM: Heidi Steinmetz, Assistant Director of Economic Development ✓ <br /> DATE: May 9, 2005 <br /> SUBJECT: Sherburne County Economic Development Workplan <br /> Attachment <br /> • Sherburne County Economic Development Workplan,Apr. 2005-Dec. 2007 <br /> Background <br /> • Staff attended the Sherburne County Economic Development Alliance's (SCEDA) <br /> November 4,2004 and January 19, 2005 Strategic Planning Sessions to assist in developing <br /> the attached workplan. The final workplan was approved by the Sherburne County Board of <br /> Commissioners on May 3, 2005 and is effective until December 2007. <br /> The workplan contains the six main goals: <br /> 1. Preserve land for future industrial and commercial growth in key locations <br /> through planning, zoning,and acquisition in cooperation with affected communities <br /> to ensure: <br /> o a strong and balanced tax base <br /> o a healthy employment base,and <br /> o convenient access for residents to goods and services <br /> 2. Advocate for transportation and other infrastructure critical to the county's <br /> economic competitiveness. <br /> 3. Integrate consideration of economic development into other county planning <br /> and decision-making. <br /> 4. Support local government efforts to plan and implement economic development <br /> initiatives throughout Sherburne County. <br /> 5. Market the county for economic development. <br /> 110 6. Create the organizational capacity to effectively implement the 2005-2007 <br /> workplan. <br />
