Item # 6
City of
Elk - .-
River
MEMORANDUM
TO: Housing & Redevelopment Authority
FROM: Catherine Mehelich, Director of Economic Development
DATE: October 22, 2001 l'
SUBJECT: City of Elk River Housing Plan 2001-2005
Attachment
• City of Elk River Housing Plan 2001-2005
Issue
Lisa Graphenteen of the Central MN Housing Partnership will present the results of the
recently completed City of Elk River Housing Plan 2001-2005. The Mayor and City Council
have been invited to attend the presentation.
Background
At its February 2001 meeting the HRA authorized the Central MN Housing Partnership to
complete an analysis of the housing market condition of the city.
Recommendation
The Housing Plan suggests a variety of strategies that may be considered depending on the
role the City wants to play in addressing the identified issues. Depending on the amount of
time available, staff recommends the HRA continue a discussion about the results of the
housing plan at its November regular meeting.
In the past the HRA has not taken an active role in addressing housing issues, nor has
housing been a priority identified through the Strategic Economic Development Plan. The
strategies may be a good topic for further discussion by the HRA, EDA and City Council
during the update of the Strategic Plan in 2002.
•
