MEMORANDUM

Item 5.2.

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor and City Council

Personnel Committee:
Joan Schmidt Dave Potvin
Bruce West Lori Johnson

August 2, 2004

Personnel Committee Recommendation

The Personnel Committee has reviewed the building maintenance supervisor position held by Gary
Lore. The review is consistent with the practice of reviewing new positions approximately one year
after being filled.

This position was created to manage, supervise, and perform the interior building cleaning and
maintenance of most city buildings along with grounds maintenance at the city hall and public safety
complex. The position supervises one full time and six part time employees. The building
maintenance department falls under the direction and supervision of the Street Superintendent.

The recommended point value is based on a position profile generated from a job analysis
questionnaire completed by Mr. Lore. Phil Hals also reviewed the final position pro£fle for accuracy.
Based on that information, the Personnel Committee recommends the following:

Position
Building Maintenance Supervisor

Current Point Value

New PointVa~e

64 72

Pay Grade 9 11

Action Requested
The Council is asked to consider the Personnel Committee recommendation for the building
maintenance supervisor position as noted above.

S:~Council~Lori~ 2004~ PersonnelComm080304.doc
