Oity of

INFO/IMATION

Memorandum

River

TO:

FROM:

MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL

STEPHEN ROHLF, BUILDING AND
ZONING ADMINISTRATOR

DATE: JUNE 12, 2000

SUBJECT: UPDATE ON CSAH 33 & 77 PROJECT

I recently inspected Barton Sand & Gravel Company's gravel pits adjacent to County
State Aid Highways (CSAH) 33 and 77. As the Council is aware, these are the two roads
that the city, county, CAMAS (now Aggregate Industries), and Barton Sand & Gravel are
considering lowering in the near future.

The best timing for this project is immediately after Barton has completed mining
operations in the adjacent pits, but before they move their equipment out of the area. It
was believed that this would take place in the next year or so.

Barton has now decided to mine the southern most portion of their pit that lies west of
Proctor Avenue. Although this area had been previously approved for mining, Barton did
not think is was worth the effort. This has extended the life of this pit approximately
three years.

Consequently, the timing for making plans for the lowering of CSAH 33 & 77 is not as
critical as we originally thought. Staff will monitor this situation, but the time for
planning the road project will probably be the winter of 2001/2002.

Cc

Dave Schwarting
Brian Benson
Terry Maurer

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
