• RESOLUTION 82-12 <br /> A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE SIGNALIZATION OF THE INTERSECTION <br /> OF U.S. TRUNK HIGHWAY #169 AND MAIN STREET IN THE CITY OF ELK RIVER <br /> WHEREAS, U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street intersect within the City <br /> limits of the City of Elk River; and, <br /> WHEREAS, due to the absence of signalization and the posted speed limit, the <br /> intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street has been the <br /> site of a substantial number of traffic accidents, including one fatality <br /> and numerous incapacitating injuries over the past several years; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street is in an area <br /> which is in the process of rapid development, both by commercial and <br /> residential uses; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the increase in development will increase the usage of the intersection <br /> of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street and will thereby create further <br /> opportunities for increased accidents and fatalities; and, <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Elk River has informed the Brainerd office of the Minnesota <br /> Department of Transportation that the City is willing to participate in <br /> funding a project to signalize the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 <br /> and Main Street; and, <br /> • WHEREAS, the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street meets the <br /> standards of the Minnesota Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for <br /> Signalization, and as such, warrants the installation of a signal. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Elk River that the <br /> Minnesota Department of Transportation is hereby requested to program the installa- <br /> tion of the signal at the intersection of U.S. Trunk Highway #169 and Main Street in <br /> the City of Elk River at the earliest possible date, inasmuch as the intersection <br /> provides a threat to the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the State of <br /> Minnesota and certainly, to the citizens of the City of Elk River. <br /> Passed and adopted this 12th day of July, 1982. <br /> dlowr <br /> 'ichard Hinkle <br /> Mayor <br /> ATTEST: <br /> Ro.ert C.
