I am excited to invite you to attend a series of special sessions in this tradition, designed especially for small communities in your area. NAHRO recognizes that in the midst of one of the largest housing booms in history, there are thousands of smaller communities across the country that continue to struggle to meet their affordable housing and community development needs. While many cannot access funding • directly through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, these needs must be addressed if we are to strengthen the fabric of our nation. Recognition of this challenge has prompted NAHRO to develop a new Small Cities Initiative, which targets information and resources to smaller communities across the- country. As the first step, we are utilizing our national network of regional and chapter conferences to engage both housing and community development professionals in a discussion of how these needs might be met. To this end, we are inviting professionals from your area to special sessions at the NAHRO North Central Regional Council conference in Chicago as well as the Minnesota Chapter conference in Brainerd. The Regional Conference session will encompass the broader regional community, serving as a strong starting point for the more state-focused session at the Minnesota conference. The intent of these sessions is to provide participants with information and the opportunity to expand their dialogue with other members of their community. We encourage you to attend both sessions, but welcome your participation at either session. There is no fee to attend these special sessions, although we encourage you to register for the- conferences and participate in all they have to offer.
