RESOLUTION 79-6 <br /> A JOINT RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ELK RIVER AND THE <br /> ELK RIVER MUNICIPAL UTILITIES REQUESTING THAT THE ANOKA ELECTRIC <br /> COOPERATIVE CONSIDER THE PURCHASE OF THE ELK RIVER MUNICIPAL <br /> 0 UTILITIES ETPCTRICAL SYSTEM IN THE CITY OF ZIMMERMAN <br /> AND SOUTH TO THE ELK RIVER CITY LIMITS <br /> WHEREAS, The Elk River Municipal Utilities electrical service to the <br /> City of Zimmerman has been found to be inadequate to serve <br /> both the immediate needs of the residents in the area and <br /> the future needs which are being created by the growth and <br /> expansion of the Zimmerman area; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The Elk River Municipal Utilities has considered various <br /> alternatives for providing increased electrical service to <br /> the City of Zimmerman area, including the construction of a <br /> substation in Zimmerman and purchasing energy from the United <br /> Power Association and the construction of a new larger trans- <br /> mission line from Elk River to Zimmerman; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The various alternatives considered by the Elk River Municipal <br /> Utilities had been found to place an undue cost burden on the <br /> City of Zimmerman customers; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The Anoka Electric Cooperative owns and maintains electrical <br /> distribution facilities in and around the Zimmerman area; and, <br /> WHEREAS, It appears that it is more economical for all parties concerned <br /> and more equitable to the residents of the City of Zimmerman if <br /> 1110 the Anoka Electric Cooperative provided electrical service to the <br /> City of Zimmerman; and, <br /> WHEREAS, The City of Zimmerman has indicated its support for a change from <br /> the Elk River Municipal Utilities to the Anoka Electric Cooperative. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT JOINTLY RESOLVED by the Elk River City Council and the <br /> Elk River Municipal Utilities that the Anoka Electric Cooperative <br /> is hereby requested to consider the purchase of the entire electrical <br /> system owned by the Elk River Municipal Utilities in the City of <br /> Zimmerman, and south to the Elk River City limits, or the trade <br /> of the electrical distribution system in Zimmerman for that system <br /> owned and operated by the Anoka Electric Cooperative in and around <br /> the site of the new Sherburne County Courthouse on U.S. Highway #10. <br /> Adopted this 21st day of May, 1979. <br /> ,,,- / <br /> 'Franklin Madsen, Mayor <br /> —././//,...4 d, <br /> 40 1 <br /> 1 - Mun42/11-Jetilities Commission Chairman <br /> 411/ ATTEST: <br /> ---m7 <br /> R ert C.
