A
c
ty of MEMORANDUM
lk E
River TO: PARK & RECREATION COMMISSION
FROM: PHIL HALS, STREET/PARK SU '
DATE: SEPTEMBER 7, 1994
SUBJECT: LION'S PARK ATHLETIC FIELD
PROPOSAL
On September 6, 1994, I supplied Lion's Club member Harold Gramstad with
a plan for the construction of three youth sized soccer fields in Lion's Park,
along with a copy of the Park and Recreation Commission minutes from
8/18/94 which discussed this proposal.
The Lions Club would like the City to construct one soccer field, one football
field, and one softball field, but have them available strictly for family use
and not allow any organized athletic use.
• My original proposal to do the three soccer fields was twofold; to attempt to
utilize the park space that we now maintain, and to create much needed
playing fields. If we cannot build fields for organized athletics, such as youth
soccer and/or youth football, I believe that the park will continue to be very
underutilized. With that thought in mind, I would suggest that building the
three fields recommended by the Lion's Club would be much money and labor
with little usage, and that our money and time could be better spent on other
projects.
The City Council can make the final decision so please come prepared to
discuss a recommendation for them to consider.
•
P.O.
