Pk./ -N r?, 14,
( X-
ty of
r
it,
jlkli : :
River
February 3, 1994
To Whom It May Concern:
Please be advised that the City of Elk River strongly supports the LCMR Grant proposal
that is being prepared by Mike Niziolek for the nature center and environmental
education sites in the Woodland Trails Park and the Community Environmental
Education Program.
The City Park and Recreation Commission approved a motion endorsing this grant
application at its December 8, 1993, meeting. The City Council reviewed the grant
application at its January 24, 1994, meeting. At the January 31, 1994,joint Elk River
City Council and School District 728 School Board meeting, a motion was approved by
the Elk River City Council to authorize the expenditure of$40,000 as the local match for
• the LCMR grant. Additionally,on 1/31/94, both the Elk River City Council and the
School District 728 School Board approved motions of support for the environmental
learning center facility and education program.
In addition to the cash contribution to this project by the City of Elk River, the City is
also committed to providing in kind labor contributions for the construction of the
Environmental Education facility and sites. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the City
and School District will share the responsibility for maintenance of the facilities and the
costs associated with the program activities after the initial development of the
educational program. The motions approved by both the City Council and the School
Board on 1/31/94 indicates the support of these governmental units for community
environmental education programs.
In conclusion, the City of Elk River and School District 728 Board strongly support the
LCMR grant application for the Environmental Learning Key as prepared and submitted
by Mike Niziolek.
Sincerely,
7d-i-e/W
Patrick D.
