c
MEMORANDUM
ty of
1k T •
River
TO: Park and Recreation Commission
FROM: Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent
DATE: May 10, 1995
SUBJECT: Agenda Memo for the May 10, 1995,Meeting
6. Administrative Lot Split by Joyce Mickelson
This is a simple administrative lot split in the rural area of the city that will create
one additional lot. Staff recommends that the developer pay the park dedication
fees.
7. Discussion of Park Projects Used for Community Service
• From time to time, the city receives requests from groups wishing to do
community service projects. Most of these are coordinated by staff and turn out
to be positive for everyone, but recently we have had several Boy Scout Eagle
projects come forward that need to be addressed.
An Eagle Scout project is to involve project planning, securing materials,
organizing workers, and constructing a project. The problem from staff's point of
view is the lack of coordination at installation time and the lack of maintenance
after installation. We have bird houses in Woodland Trails park that are located
so that birds will not use them; no one is clearing out old nests. We also have
mallard houses that are tipping over.
Staff requests some input from the Park and Recreation Commission so that we
may develop criteria so that future projects would serve their intended purpose
when installed and also in the future.
•
13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
