Item 10 .
Elk River Park and Recreation Commission
Community Recreation Update -September 9, 1998
- "Youthbound": Attendance has been good and is increasing. We have identified some
attendance patterns and we will continue to monitor these patterns to consider any
changes in the centers hours. We have special events planned for Sept 18th and
October 30th. We plan to continue these special events at least monthly.
- Skatepark: So far use has been slow. We have had several phone calls about it and
we are hopeful that we can revitalize the Skateboard Association to again be active and
help to equip and enhance the site.
- Fall '98 Recreation: Our Fall activities brochure was delivered August 26th and
registration began September 3rd. A sampling of opportunities includes: Jr. and Sr.
High intramurals, gymnastics, open gyms, skating lessons, adult volleyball leagues,
non-school day events, numerous introduction to youth sports programs, indoor
walking, hayrides, and several family styled special events and several events for
teens.
S
- Winter Program Consideration: FamilySleigh Ride at Woodland Trails: I am seeking
input towards the consideration of offering a sleigh ride for families at Woodland Trails
this Winter. I realize their are several things to consider. Please think about the
possibility so that we can perhaps spend some time discussing it for further
consideration.
- Parks and Recreation Benefits Information: Attached you will find a handout
describing the benefits and value that Parks and Recreation services and facilities
provide. I thought this information may be useful with any promotional pieces related to
the Park Bond Referendum. There is also a 6-8 minute video and other similar
information that I have that could be helpful. Let me know what you think.
Please call me with any questions. 241-3523.
Jeff
