Request for Action

To Item Number

Mayor and City Council 4.6
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by

ConsentFebruary 17, 2015Lauren Wipper, Human Resource Representative
Item Description Reviewed by
Hire Human Resources Technician Cal Portner, City Administrator
Reviewed by

Action Requested

Approve, by motion, the hiring of Katie Haase for the position of human resources technician.

Background/Discussion

The 2015 budget includes the new position of human resources technician. Because there was great
potential for a large number of internal candidates for this position, we chose to keep this recruitment
internal. We received letters of interest from five candidates and interviewed four; all of which would
bring unique, individual strengths to this position. After thorough consideration, we recommend Katie
Haase for this position.

Ms. Haase has been working for the city since September 2013 as the part-time administrative assistant
for the Fire Department. During this time she has proven herself to be a quick learner, very detail-
orientated, a stickler for accuracy, and a great team player. Prior to her position with our city, she worked
for two years in the City of Sauk Rapids Building Department as their office clerk. Ms. Haase holds a
bachelor’s degree in retail merchandising with a minor in business administration.

Ms. Haase will begin full-time work on Monday, February 23, 2015, working in both positions for a short
period of time to assist the fire chief and deputy chief during this transition. Ms. Haase will be paid at
step A of pay grade 5. Pending successful performance, she will be eligible for a step increase on August
23, 2015.

Financial Impact

This is a budgeted position.

Attachments

N/A
