Request for Action To Item Number Economic Development Authority 6.3 Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by General BusinessJanuary 20, 2015Jeremy Barnhart, Deputy Director, CODD Item Description Reviewed by EDA Sub Committee Appointments Reviewed by Action Requested By motion, approve the following: a. appointment of an EDA member to the Finance Committee b. appointment of Paul Motin to the Finance Committee, providing legal view point c. recruitment of a member from a real estate background Background/Discussion EDA Bylaws suggest the Economic Development Authority consider appointments to all existing committees as necessary. The appointment and/or removal of committee members are at the discretion of the EDA. All committees may not be necessary for 2015. Currently, the EDA hosts one subcommittee, the Finance Committee. The Finance Committee provides the EDA with a technical, politically neutral analysis of an application including microloan, tax abatement, and tax increment financing applications. They meet on an as-needed basis, generally before the work day or during lunch. Other committees identified in the by laws for Marketing, Prospecting, and Research and Development are not established. The Finance Committee consists of 7 members: 2 EDA members and at large members representing various constituencies, including banking, law, and the general community. Current members are: EDA: Dan Tveite EDA: Vacant Banking: Chad Vitzthum Banking: Nate Ovall Law: Vacant At Large: Larry Toth At Large: Vacant Law representative Clifford Lundberg resigned in December, 2014. It is suggested that Paul Motin be appointed as his replacement. Mr. Motin is a tax attorney in Elk River and recently served on the EDA for several years.
