J
Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Tom Sagstetter- Conservation and Key Accounts
John Dietz—Chair Manager
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
January 13`h, 2015 6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Completed residential and commercial 2014 energy efficient rebate submissions to GRE.
• Met with Tri-County Community Action Program to discuss changes for 2015 low-
income program delivery. The only change to the Service Agreement is a change in the
administrative fees. The fee will change from a range of 10 to 12% of project cost, to a
flat rate of 12%. The Services Agreement is included in the Commission packet for
approval.
• Working with numerous residential customers on energy use education. Many customers
are experiencing high energy use and associated bills. The major appliance of high use
has been space heaters. Considering the very cold weather so far in January, there should
be a high call volume in February.
• Completed an update to the Landfill Gas Plant(LFGP) fire notification system. The
LFGP will automatically call Sherburne County Dispatch first and then call the Waste
Management Plant Manager. The new notification system was required by City of Elk
River Fire Department.
• Provided tours of the Elk River Landfill Gas Plant(ERLFGP) to Elk River City staff.
The goal of the tours is to give all employees the opportunity to learn about Energy City
and energy efficiency as part of the Class 5 Energy project the city is participating in.
The goal of the tours and the Class 5 project is to engage and inspire people to change
their attitudes, behaviors, and decision-making when it comes to energy use and the
environment.
• The holiday lighting contest was once again a success this year. There were 13
participants this year. We will evaluate some new approaches to increase awareness and
hopefully increase participation in this community event in 2015. The following are the
winners we had in each category: GRAND PRIZE WINNER— 15726 96th Circle,
Otsego; FIRST RUNNER UP—925York Ave, Elk River; SECOND RUNNER UP—
19676 Hudson Circle, Elk River; MOST CREATIVE— 1839 Main Street, Elk River; and
BEST USE OF LED LIGHTING—20897 Quincy Street, Elk River.
PXOMEOED 11
Page 1 of 1 NATURE
Reliable Public•
Power Provider P O W E 0.E D T O S E R V E
137
