Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Tom Sagstetter- Conservation and Key Accounts
John Dietz—Chair Manager
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
December 16th, 2014 6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Working with Elk River Landfill to update safety and operating procedures for fire, arc
flash, and spill prevention, containment, and countermeasure plans. The arc flash study
will be completed by United Services Group. We are continuing to identify processes
and procedures that clearly outline the difference between the owner of the facility(Elk
River Municipal Utilities), and the operator(Waste Management).
• Met with Waste Management, and Elk River city staff to discuss progress on leachate
treatment and Landfill Gas Plant expansion plans. Will provide verbal update at the
commission meeting.
• Provided tours of the Elk River Landfill Gas Plant(ERLFGP)to Elk River city staff The
goal of the tours is to give all employees the opportunity to learn about Energy City and
energy efficiency as part of the Class 5 Energy project the city is participating in. The
goal of the tours and the Class 5 project is to engage and inspire people to change their
attitudes, behaviors, and decision-making when it comes to energy use and the
environment.
• There continues to be requests for information on Solar PV installations from residential
customers. I received 2 requests from customers that are working with, or thinking about
contracting with an installation company. We have not had any new installations in
2014,but interest is growing. Some of the challenges to residential installations are;
shade on roofs, building code and snow load, property set-backs and placement on
property.
• The holiday lighting contest received 13 participants this year which was the same as
2013. The winners will be notified December 19th. The Star News will run a brief story
about the contest with a list of the participants addresses so local residents can take a
driving tour. I fielded a few calls from people that were looking for the list already, and
Joni with the Star News has received requests for the list as well. We will evaluate some
new approaches to increase awareness and hopefully increase participation in this
community event for 2015.
• POWERED ® 1
Page 1 of 1 NATURE
Reliable Public®
Power Provider P O W E R E D T O S E 0.V E
94
