Elk River
Municipal Utilities UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO: FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission Eric Volk- Water Superintendent
John Dietz—Chair
Al Nadeau—Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson—Trustee
MEETING DATE: AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
December 16, 2014 6.1e
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Delivered 4 new residential water meters.
• Sealed the water meter and took curb stop ties from 5 water services.
• Turned on 2 water services and 1 electric service.
• Turned off 5 water services and 2 electric services.
• Went on 13 Service calls.
• Completed 25 BACTI/Total Chlorine Residual Samples; all confirmed negative for
Coliform Bacteria.
• Completed 20 routine fluoride samples. All samples met MDH standards.
• I was notified by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency(MPCA)that we were in
violation for a third time. The Water Treatment Plant Residual Solids Annual Report had
not been submitted in 2009, 2010, and again in 2013. I corrected the deficiency and we
are no longer in violation. The report for 2014 has already been completed.
• The work on the Twin Lakes Watermain Project has been wrapped up for the winter. The
new watermain passed the pressure and bacteria tests and is now in service. We've held
back a portion of the payment for work the contractor didn't completed; attached is the
partial pay estimate from Elfering and Associates. The contractor was also overdue on the
completion date so we have assessed them$6,500 in liquidated damages.
• Troy Adams, Jennie Nelson, and I met with Suzanne Fischer and Matt Stevens to discuss
the City adopting policy and revising wastewater rates to allow for rate consistency and
to ensure wastewater rates are fair and equitable.
• We shut off and drained the Johnson Street Water Tower for the winter. We'll refill it
sometime in April.
• The worn out and damaged pipes at Well#2 have been replaced. We added some
vibration dampeners to the piping to reduce the effect the railroad has on the pipes. I've
attached pictures of the new pipes.
• The VFDs for Well#4 and Well#6 have been installed and started up.
RBT1a PBWEBEO BY
ITO
Page 1 of 2 NATURE
Reliable Public
Power Provider P O V E R L D T o S E N V,
88
