Elk River
Municipal Utilities
UTILITIES COMMISSION MEETING
TO:
FROM:
Elk River Municipal Utilities Commission
Tom Sagstetter - Conservation and Key Accounts
John Dietz — Chair
Manager
Al Nadeau — Vice Chair
Daryl Thompson — Trustee
MEETING DATE:
AGENDA ITEM NUMBER:
October 21 th, 2014
6.1f
SUBJECT:
Staff Update
DISCUSSION:
• Working with Elk River Landfill to update safety and operating procedures for fire, arc
flash, and spill prevention, containment and countermeasure plans. ERMU also had the
supports for the cooling fans on the roof fixed. There were 13 supports that were
possibly leaking into the generator room.
• Working with City Staff to prepare marketing sheets for prospective businesses including
data centers. Provided edits and comments that support clear concise bullet format that
summarizes the benefits of Elk River over other communities in Minnesota. ERMU
provided City Staff with a summary letter detailing the particulars of the ERMU water
and electric service territory including the reliability achievements.
• Attended the Energy Assistance Open House in St. Cloud, MN. ERMU continues to
support Tri -Cap which is responsible for weatherization and energy assistance for Elk
River residents. Tri-Cap now provides a staff person once per week at the Sherburne
County Government Center to help local client's access services better. The expanded
presence of Tri -Cap in the area will provide more opportunities to spend low income
dollars on direct impact programs for qualified individuals.
• Weatherization and Energy Assistance posters have been hung at CAER, Sherburne
County Government Center, City Hall, ERMU, and other local businesses to help income
eligible clients find resources available to them during the winter months.
• Provided a tour of the Elk River Landfill Gas to Electric Power Plant to the Elk River
Rotary. The meeting was well attended and the participants were very engaged as always
with lots of good questions. The next facility on the tour will be the diesel power plant
on Main Street in early 2015.
• Customers are continuing to call with high bill concerns. The volume was very high
again this month. The energy hogs of the month were: entertainment systems, hot tubs,
dehumidifiers, furnace fans running in the continuous mode, and air exchangers that were
operating all summer.
• Staff worked to validate billing information and rates as part of the CC &B conversion.
Reliable Public
Power Provider
121
P 0 W E R E 0 1 1
NATUR
P O W E R E D To S E R V E
