MEETING OF THE ELK RIVER • HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION HELD AT THE ELK RIVER CITY HALL TUESDAY, JANUARY 15,2002 Members Present: Jeff Gongoll, Cliff Lundberg, Kurt Kragness, and Pat Dwyer Members Absent: Jim Nord, Bud Houlton and Cindy Olson Staff Present: Stephen Rohlf 1. Call Meeting to Order Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Joint meeting of the Elk River Planning Commission and the Elk River Heritage Preservation Commission was called to order at 6:35 p.m. 2. Consider 1/15/02 Agenda COMMISSIONER GONGOLL MOVED TO APPROVE THE AGENDA. COMMISSIONER DWYER SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. • 3. Consider 12/13/01 Minutes COMMISSIONER DWYER MOVED TO APPROVE THE 12/13/01 MINUTES AS SUBMITTED. COMMISSION GONGOLL SECONDED THE MOTION. THE MOTION CARRIED 4-0. 6. Consider Items on Planning Commission 1/29/02 Agenda (this agenda item was considered out of order) The Commission reviewed the items on the 1/29/02 Planning Commission agenda and felt there were no conflicts or issues regarding the preservation of the city's heritage with the exception of the Elk River Municipal Utilities request to build a garage on Main Street. Because this site is in the oldest area of Elk River, the Commission recommended that anything uncovered during construction that may have archeological significance be reported to the city immediately to consider whether or not further inVestigation is warranted. 4. Joint Planning Commission/Heritage Preservation Commission Meeting 5. Discuss Context Study of Elk River with City Consultant Carole Zellie of Landscape Research, city consultant, discussed the work she is doing for the city regarding a historic context study and historical survey focused • on the downtown area. Ms. Zollie explained how the work she was doing related to community planning.
