'kr ` Item #: 9.8.4.
4-
(
ity of
.lk •
River Item#
MEMORANDUM
TO: Park and Recreation Commissio
FROM: Stephen Wensman, Planner j
DATE: September 8, 1998
SUBJECT: Individual picnic sites for Woodland
Trails Park
Request
Staff requests that the Park and Recreation Commission review and approve
the proposed improvements to Woodland Trails Park.
• Attachments
• Woodland Trails Concept Plan with picnic sites
Overview
Commissioner Dave Anderson and Mike Niziolek approached staff with their
ideas for three individual picnic sites in Woodland Trails Park. As you know,
there has been a need for picnic sites at Woodland Trails for sometime and at
this time a Shelter Design Committee is putting together ideas for a long-
term solution. The three individual picnic sites would provide an alternative
to the typical group picnic area and would provide an immediate picnic use at
Woodland Trails for little expense.
Of the three sites are shown on the attached Park Concept Plans, two are
adjacent the existing parking lot. The third is nestled into the woods in an
open area with a view to the pond. A small two car parking stall is proposed
to service the third picnic spot. The parking could be mowed grass, gravel, or
a grass-crete type with rock or bollards delineating the edges of the parking
area. The proposed location for the parking is in a low weedy open area near
•
13065 Orono Parkway • P.O. Box 490 • Elk River, MN 55330 • TDD&Phone: (612)441-7420 • Fax: (612)441-7425
