--Q \ ITEM # 9.B.1.
\4 MEMORANDUM
ityof /
111( River TO: Park and Recreation Commission
FROM: Michele McPherso irector of Planning
DATE: July 9, 1999
SUBJECT: Workplan for Shelter Designs
At the June meeting, there appeared to be some interest in identifying an alternative
park shelter design other than the pre-fabricated structures. I propose the following
workplan in regards to identifying and planning for unique park shelters:
1. Identify one or several "themes" that may be appropriate for the city (ranch, prairie,
barn, modern, etc.)
2. Identify the parks or areas that require or desire a unique structure due to
topography, uses, or "character" of the site.
3. Identify desired building materials for the structures.
IIII4. Search for park shelter designs via the Internet, personal references, architectural
design magazines, or other sources.
These tasks could be accomplished within the next two to three months with the help of
a Commission subcommittee of interested members. The recommendations could then
be brought to the full Commission at the November meeting a could be incorporated
into the discussion regarding the Park Master Plan.
Recommendation
Please provide concurrence with the above workplan as proposed or with changes.
Please indicate your interest in participating in this project.
ID
13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
