Elk River Park and Recreation Commission ITEM 11.a.
Community Recreation Update - April 14, 1999
• - Summer ' 99 program: The brochure went to the printer on Friday April 9th, with
delivery to all area homes on Wed. April 21st. Mass registration will be held on
Saturday May 1st.
As a result of our recent joint planning efforts, we have identified various targets that we
should be striving to serve with program opportunities. Attached you will find a
breakdown review of the programs that will be available this summer.
- Youthbound: Has changed its name to; Emporium. This name was suggested by the
youth at the youth forums that we have been conducting.
We are still seeking couches, chairs & end /coffee tables for more lounging. If you
know of any sources please let me know.
- Summer Youth Athletic Association Activities: I have been meeting with these groups
throughout the Winter, gearing up for this coming season. Teams are now being
organized and practices will be beginning soon. This year will offer the first year of an
organized approach to scheduling baseball /softball fields for team practices. Until this
year, the fields were available on a "first come-first served" basis.
• - WinterFest 2000: As reported a couple of months ago, this idea was generated from
the CBD visioning process that began late in 1998 and is still continuing. It was then
thought that perhaps an event in cooperation with the Otsego Winterfest was
considerable. The Otsego Park Commission is interested in their own event again in
2000. Some coordination makes sense if possible (joint advertising, etc.).
How does the Commission feel about moving ahead with a festival of sorts in 2000?
Please call me with any questions. 241-3523.
<5:rip
•
