ITEM # 7.a.
Elk River Park and Recreation Commission
Community Recreation Update - February 10, 1999
• - Sleigh Ride Update: Taking place this coming Saturday 2/13 from 2 - 4 pm. We are
9 9
expecting about 30 families (120- 130) people. ECFE and CE are providing fun
activities for children to enjoy as well. This should be a nice event.
- Interest in a Winterfest Event for next year: As part of the CBD Visioning that has been
taking place over the last few months, one of the identified initiatives is to develop a
Winterfest type event. Lions Park was the suggested location. Please find an action
plan as developed by the CBD visioning process enclosed. I will plan to better review
this item at your meeting. How does the Park and Recreation Commission feel about
this idea?
- Youth Athletic Complex Guidelines: Please find a draft enclosed. Some of you may
recall this from last Winter. This document is important to Youth Baseball and Girls
Fastpitch Softball as they are trying to finish up the final understanding of priority at
YAC as they have been significant financial contributors. Please review the document.
will be looking for approval and a recommendation to Council that this be adopted.
- Summer ' 99 program planning: The summer brochure goes to print on April 9th. We
will soon begin our program planning. I will appreciate any ideas on programs that you
may have. Please think on this and share your thoughts. To "prime your pump", the
following is a review of past programs that our department has offered: t-ball, various
sports camps and clinics, gymnastics, rollerskating at the arena, park entertainment
series, organized playground programs, weekly miscellaneous structured events such
as; carnivals, wacky olympics, etc., track and field, youth golf leagues, youth tennis,
football clinics, strength and conditioning, safety camp.
I will look forward to hearing some of your ideas.
- February 1st Joint meeting update: Thanks to Lana and Duane for their participation.
It was a good start of a process that will only grow richer.
Please call me with any questions. 241-3523.
•
