TRAILS
ityof /
lk
River MEMORANDUM
TO: Park and Recreation Commission
FROM: Michele McPhersol Director of Planning
DATE: June 14, 2000
SUBJECT: Trail Shoulders Near Lafayette Woods
Staff was contacted by a resident in Lafayette Woods residing at 19340 Upland
Avenue regarding the trail shoulders along the railroad grade near the south end
of Lafayette Woods.
Staff will provide a video of this area for the Commission to view on Wednesday
evening.
A policy decision needs to be made regarding the condition that the trail
IIIshoulders be maintained in, especially near backyards with sod. Mr. Musselman,
the resident at 19340 Upland Avenue, requested that he be able to sod the area
between his rear property line and the bed of the railroad grade. As an
alternative, the city right-of-way could be left in a natural state. In addition,
perhaps park boundary signs should be installed along the rear of homes in this
area where the topography does not change substantially to demark the edge of
the railroad right-of-way and the property lines.
Recommendation
Staff requests that the Commission discuss this issue and provide policy
direction regarding these lots adjacent to the railroad grade.
•
S:\PLANNING\MICHMC\PARKNREC\LAFAYETT.DOC
13065 Orono Parkway • P.O.
