Background/Discussion Our designation as "Energy City"is a unique asset when it comes to marketing our lifestyle and values to businesses and residential developers. In an effort to focus its energies on programs and initiatives that promote a healthy, prosperous and sustainable future for our city, the Energy City Commission has developed a 10-year Action Plan. This Action Plan takes the same format as the City Councils Vision and Action Plan document. The plan sets out a clear vision of the future,with concentrated targets and the steps and metrics needed to achieve and evaluate each one of them. By focusing resources on select tasks, the Energy City Commission believes the results will improve our quality of life, further improving upon our competitiveness in the future region, while enabling us to live a better balance with Earth's natural systems, truly being Powered by Nature. The Energy City Action Plan is divided into 4 goals with each having identifiable objectives and high priority action tasks and timelines by which to complete each task. Together, these four goals address promotion of the City of Elk River, economic development within Elk River, education through demonstrations, and engaging residents and businesses of the community. The goals of this plan are centered on three areas of focus: reducing carbon, managing waste more efficiently, and reducing human impacts on the environment. Our goal is to encourage businesses and homeowners in the City of Elk River to act not only at a local level but also think about the global environmental impacts of our day to day actions. Energy efficiency and environmental sustainability not only affect the impact we have on the environment,but also our local economy,health,resource availability,jobs,and culture. This document will be reviewed biennially to adjust for completeness, resources, and validation and congruence with community goals. The Energy City Commission will be asking Council for approval of the 2024 Energy City Action Plan so that we may immediately begin implementing the tasks outlined in the plan. [ I I E 1 E I Ill NATUR
