• Item #9.C.2.
i1k ity
River
MEMORANDUM
TO: Park and Recreation Commission
FROM: Michele McPherson,Director of Planning
DATE: August 8, 2001
SUBJECT: Lafayette Woods Trail Connection
Attachments
• Location Map
• Letter from Alyssa and Jason Klein
• Photograph of Area
• Analysis
Staff received the attached letter from neighbors adjacent to the Lafayette Woods trail
corridor connecting 196th Court and 196th Circle to Lafayette Woods Park. As can be seen
on the attached picture, the area in question is in need of improvement when compared to
the existing home on the right. It is anticipated that the home on the left will also have sod.
The residents'letter requests that the City either install the asphalt trail or install black dirt
and sod in this area, which they would water.
In 2000 when this area was inspected as part of the Commission's yearly park tour,it was
decided to not pave this trail connection until a formal trail through Lafayette Woods could
be established. If the Commission desires, staff could kill the weeds, provide black dirt and
seed, and allow the neighbors to water this area. Staff would also fence the area to prevent
bicycles from entering until such time that the grass is established.
It is my understanding that Commissioner Dave Anderson has related items to discuss
regarding Lafayette Woods Park.
Recommendation
411 Staff requests that the Commission provide further direction regarding this issue.
S:\PLANNING\MICHMC\PARKNREC\LafayetteTrail.doc
