cay <br /> ElkMemorandum <br /> River <br /> To: Parks and Recreation Commission <br /> From: Michael Hecker,Parks and Recreation Director <br /> Date: July 9, 2014 <br /> Subject: Director's Report <br /> This report is a monthly highlight of our Department's activities informing the Commission on <br /> items related to collaborations, strategic planning, staff changes/ development,and park operations. <br /> Summer Concert Series <br /> The most recent concert on June 26 had about 1,000 people in attendance. Feedback on the tribute <br /> band (Journey, Styx),Arch Allies was very positive. The next concert will be July 10 with a new <br /> band to Elk River—Socaholix, a Reggae/Caribbean band. <br /> Houlton Property <br /> The Lessard-Sams Outdoor Heritage Council approved$160,000 for The Friends of the Mississippi <br /> River (FMR) to receive funding for a natural resource management plan of the Houlton farm <br /> property. The funding is $160,000 for the FMR to work with the City of Elk River if the Houlton <br /> property is acquired. Staff is now working with the Trust for Public Land on the acquisition of the <br /> property. <br /> Independence Day Fireworks <br /> The city is coordinating the July 4th Independence Day fireworks this year. The city is contributing <br /> toward the fireworks and donations are strongly encouraged. The total cost for the fireworks show <br /> is $15,000. <br /> Oak Knoll Athletic Field Lighting Project <br /> Work on the installation of Musco athletic field lights for Oak Knoll is nearly completed. All of the <br /> lights poles have been installed.
